You're Getting Very Very Sleepy

So... Hypnobirthing.
I read the book, I wanted to become a practitioner, and now I get to use the method for myself!

A practitioner plopped into my lap at the end of June and I just love her. Her name is Amber Icopini and she's from Hysham. She is this tiny little ray of sunshine who encourages me and can't wait to see me use the same method she fell in love with while birthing her daughter almost 2 years ago. She has 1 other mom with my due date(we are her first students), but that mom is having twins, so she'll have them before me. I can't wait to hear that birth story!

We only have 1 class left and I'm excited to share that I am, in fact, ready to do this. We have learned so much about what my body was made to do to birth my child gently and without pain or medication. Did you know that your body releases endorphins that are 200 times stronger than morphine? Did you know that those endorphins will only work if you are calm, relaxed, and trusting in your body? Did you know that babies can be born anywhere between 38 and 42 weeks, and a due date is just the average of those dates? A whole month of un-plannable waiting for lil miss to come meet us is going to be a challenge, but I am up for it!

Chris has experienced this whole "self hypnosis" and I think he's a little jealous... Every time we practice, it reaffirms why I know this is the best plan for us and I'm so excited to provide my little girl with a calm loving environment as she takes her first breaths.

On that note, we had a class at Off the Leaf last night, and it was just Chris, Amber, and myself. We were in one of the little meeting rooms and we watched a couple births from Amber's dvds. I love watching the Hypnobirths, but I found myself quite uncomfortable as I thought about the people in the lobby at the coffee shop watching us watching these videos of naked women in big ol' tubs of water while they sipped their schmancy lattes. AWKWARD. I wanted to tape an explanation to the door, I wanted to keep turning around to see if anyone was even paying attention, I was really freakin' out. Oh well, nobody knocked on the door and told us we were going to hell for displaying some rather large nipples on that LCD Tv, so I guess, no harm, no foul.

  1. I'm so excited for you to do this, and to meet your baby! I'm so thrilled that you have had a peaceful (except for the heartburn) pregnancy and will get to enjoy a peaceful birth (God willing)! And I'm so bummed that I wasn't at Off the Leaf while you were watching those videos.

  2. Ditto, to Janell's comment. I am excited to see how it works out for you. I wish I had at least read the book so I could make an attempt but Bing said he is leaving the room if I don't get an epidural, and I kinda want him to be there! :)
